Cientos de miles de ciudadanos de la isla Mauricio desfilaron a través de la capital , llevando camisetas con la frase : “yo amo a mi país. Pero estoy avergonzado de mi gobierno." Sonaron trompetas y tambores para protestar contra el gobierno por la forma en que habían atendido el caso del derrame de aceite ocurrido un mes atrás.

California, Oregon, and Washington State have been ravaged by a sudden spate of fires.

In California, 28 major fires led to 33 fatalities and 64,000 evacuations, with over 3.2 million acres burnt. Despite almost fully containing some of the largest fires in California's history, firefighters are continuing to battle hotspots. 

In Oregon, more than 10% of the state’s population has been given evacuation orders, and ten fires have incinerated nearly a million acres. Meanwhile, in Washington State, over 790,000 acres have been smoldered by 16 wildfires.

An Oil Spill Sparks Protests

I love my country. I am ashamed of my government.”

Tens of thousands of Mauritian citizens paraded through the country’s capital, sporting T-shirts with these words emblazoned on them. They drummed and honked horns, protesting against the Mauritian government for how it handled the oil spill that happened a month ago.

An unusually strong lightning storm hit the San Francisco Bay Area on August 16th, sparking 650 wildfires and scorching nearly 1.7 million acres. The fires killed seven and more than 100,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes in northern California.
