According to a study published this month by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), 68% of Earth’s vertebrate population has been wiped out for various reasons between 1970 and 2016. 

The WWF has been tracking 21,000 populations of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish species. Let’s take a more in-depth look at what they found.

Las autoridades han impuesto un estado de emergencia de tres meses debido a las inundaciones causadas por el crecimiento del río Nilo.

Las inundaciones que comenzaron en julio, han causado la muerte de sobre 100 personas, destruido más de 100,000 hogares y afectado a más de 550,000 personas.

The River Nile has been wreaking havoc in Sudan, Africa.

Authorities have imposed a three-month state of emergency due to flash floods caused by the overflowing river. 

The flooding, which started in late July, has killed over 100 people, destroyed over 100,000 more homes, and affected more than 550,000 people.

Most recently, the waters swamped parts of the Island of Meroe, a UNESCO world heritage site. Sudanese authorities are trying to protect this important historical site by building sandbag walls and pumping out water.

With a recent report from the UN stating that one million species are facing extinction, conservationists are continuing their efforts to bring some of the species into the “safe zone” and preserve the populations of other species.
